Hi all [Mar. 10th, 2006|10:03 am]
Fort Myers- the place to be

Hi, I'm new to this group/community thing. I live part time in Fort Myers, and go to college in Rochester, NY. I was in Fort Myers last week for Spring Break, and read in the News-Press an article about a restaurant in Naples that is selling Garbage Plates. The Garbage plate, for those that don't know, is a plate of homefries, macaroni salad, and cheeseburger pattys, or hot dogs (no bun) all mushed together and covered in hot sauce. It originated in Rochester, NY. Here's the thing though: the restaurant it originated in, Nick Tahou's, has copyrighted the name, and has been known to sue over infringements. They once had a lawsuit over a restaurant who served "Plat d'Refuse," which is French for Garbage Plate (they lost, though). But using the exact name, Garbage plate, causes some concern. Hopefully they don't find out before I get a chance to go there and try one!

Ha. Perhaps, then again, I did make it sound worse than it is. It seems to be famous, at least around Rochester. There's the original Garbage plate, the Rubbish plate, the Trash plate, the Martian plate, the Roadie plate, and the Great plate, all the same thing at various restaurants around the area. Also, if you mention the article in the News-Press, the restauranteur will give you a free beer. :)
